About Healing U.
Healing U. is a community for women who have experienced health challenges to gather, share, learn and transform their lives.
If you are anything like our Alumni, you are a high achieving, ambitious woman who was shocked with a major life change. You made the best healing decisions you could based on endless hours of searching and lots of educated opinions.
You were committed to keeping your life moving forward -- your job, your family, your health -- and although to those around you, it looked like you had it all together, you were really exhausted, in pain and emotionally numb (which often felt like depression).
Now, you are ready to explore how your life has changed and commit to taking the best care of yourself to feel better for you and all those around you.
Although you’ve tried again and again to find answers to what you need to feel your best, you continue to come up short of full healing.

"For years I've yearned to go to a place where I could talk about the things that healed me from life changing health challenges, the experiences that changed my life. I wanted to talk about how changing my mindset, my career, my relationships and stepping into my passion were as important in my healing (if not more) than the treatment I had in a hospital. I wanted to tell my story, and I wanted to hear others. I never did find that place, so I created this place, Healing U."
Hi, I’m Sera, Founder of Healing U. When I was diagnosed with a desmoid tumor (a rare, soft tissue sarcoma) in my abdominal wall in 2008, I decided I would just get the tumor cut out and move on with my life.
My plan didn’t unfold the way I thought it would.
For five years, I fought with chronic pain which spiraled me into depression. I thought I would use my diagnosis to be an inspiration for positive change in my life, after all, I was not sure how long I now had to live. Instead, my diagnosis left me feeling hopeless for years as the “answers” to my pain and sadness escaped me (and my doctors).
I wanted to give up.
But, if you’re anything like me, my driven, A-type personality would not allow me to give up. Just like I did in my corporate career, I kept pursuing my desired outcome -- even when I was exhausted, with bleary eyes and a brain so tired it ached, I sought out and went to the next healer to fix me, the next book, the next program.
Then, in the middle of the seeking and doing, I started to get it.
I was still the same Sera I was before I was diagnosed, but I was, at the same time, radically different. I stopped seeking the right “doctor” to heal me, and I started questioning my beliefs, my truths, and my fears -- the ones that I’d held even before cancer. I surrendered my “doing” and practiced “being” in my body, as I was, now, with a new scar and new areas of pain. I worked on letting go of control instead of holding on so tightly. I practiced being the author of my life, instead of a victim, and got honest about what hurt in my body and what I wanted to feel better.
What I found was that it wasn’t my belly I wanted to feel better…. it was the core of me that wanted to heal.
I wish I could tell you it was a simple journey.
I wish I could tell you it was a simple supplement regimen.
I wish I could tell you I found that one clinician that led me to full health.
I also wish I could tell you that it all transformed so quickly, but I can’t.
It took work, surrender and commitment --- and most of all, a community of women who were willing to do the work with me. I had the best mentors and guides The Handel Group, Dr. Ian Bier, Ease Healing, Ali Shapiro, National Community Church -- just to name a few.
The journey I embarked on with trusted guides helped me to open up to the realization that my sore belly was not the burden I thought it was, but instead a blessing, a flag trying to alert me to the deeper pain in my core. The pain of not living as my most authentic self, which included healing my career, my relationships with others, myself and God, was what I needed to heal.
Now, I help other women go through the process of transformation in community and 1-on-1 with me.
I take courageous women who have experienced a health challenge and guide them through transforming their lives.
I bring women together with other women who have experienced similar challenges because I know that is how we seal transformation.
I am a healthcare visionary, mentor, and woman who has dug deep to heal my self physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I have worked in the world of functional, integrative and lifestyle medicine for the last decade, not just as a patient, but as a healthcare consultant, meeting the top experts in lifestyle medicine today, many of whom I invite to teach with me at Healing U.
Healing U. exists to facilitate full healing through creating community, accountability, and education. It doesn't matter if you had a health challenge one year ago or twenty-five, physical challenges change lives and hearts. I invite you to transform your entire life. At Healing U., you will heal from the inside out. I want to help you live the best years of your expereince -- right now.
You are not alone.
